My Trip to Tree Hill Pt. 3: Meeting the Cast

Saturday, March 17th, 2018

Well, Saturday started off celebrating my friend Kyra's birthday! So cool that we got to share in her birthday celebration in Tree Hill! Alex got her a sash and a crown for her birthday that she wore at the convention!

The first photo op that I had of the day was the one I was most excited for, the man behind the character of Nathan Scott:
JAMES LAFFERTY!!!

I was seriously so nervous to meet him. My hands were shaking as I stood in the line. I was honestly so starstruck that I didn't even ask for a hug or anything, I just said something stupid like, "Hi, nice to meet you." He asked what my name was, and I told him, and he thanked me for coming to the convention. And by some miracle, even through all my nerves, the picture turned out incredible, if I do say so myself.

Next, I met Stephen Colletti, who played Chase Adams on the show. He was so sweet and genuine, and he also thanked me multiple times for coming to the convention.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the photo ops I had that day, I went to the private autograph session, which is one of the "extra" events that you can purchase when you attend the Eyecon OTH convention. According to the Eyecon website, this is by far the most popular event at the convention, and I can completely understand why now that I have attended it.

The Private Autograph Session is a one hour meet and greet type event with ALL the celebrities in attendance at the convention. This gives you a chance to have a conversation with the actors in a much more personal type of setting.

At this event, you are able to take a selfie/photo with each actor there, and when you purchase the Private Autograph session, you receive three free autographs that you can redeem while there.

Here are my selfies:

I had a great experience meeting and talking with all of the stars, but I think the most memorable was with Austin Nichols, who played Julian Baker on the show. I was a huge Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson fan as a kid, and he starred in one of their movies, Holiday in the Sun. Anyway, when I went to get his autograph, he asked where I was from, and I told him that I was from Idaho. He was like "Wow, I have family in Idaho."

I did not expect him to say that. We ended up having like a 5 minute conversation about Idaho, and how his family that lives there works in falconry. The next day, on Sunday, when I went to take my photo op with Austin, he saw me walking up and said, "Idaho's back!" He remembered me, and that alone about gave me a heart attack!

Another one of the "extra" events that you can purchase at the convention is the banquet. At the banquet, where you get the chance to have a meal with the stars, and really have a chance to mix and mingle in a more personal setting. The evening featured a one hour meet and greet with the celebrity guest of your choice and a delicious, all you can eat buffet style meal with about 10 people per table including the celebrity guest.
The cheesecake at the banquet was PERFECTION!

I chose to sit with Lindsey McKeon, who played Taylor James on the show. She was the only female celebrity in attendance at this convention, and she was honestly super badass. I really enjoyed sitting with her and getting to talk to her. She told us about the podcast that she hosts, and how she is currently writing a few projects of her own!

When attending the banquet, your table gets a photo with every cast member in attendance. Here's the one my table took:

At the end of the banquet, the celebrities were being escorted out to attend the Saturday night party. A bunch of the celebrities were taking selfies with the people at their tables, and we pointed this out oh so casually (yeah right!) to Lindsey, and so she took a selfie with our group at the table, and ended up posting it on her Instagram story!

Drew Seeley made an appearance, and we had an empty seat at our table, so we invited him to sit with us!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday was a jam-packed day, and ended with the Saturday night "Seven Dreams 'Til Tuesday" Red Carpet Movie Premiere Party. This event was held at a local brewery called Ironclad Brewery in Wilmington, NC. It truly is a beautiful space, and they had a red carpet photo area, so my friends and I definitely took advantage of that.

In case you don't know me, FUN FACT TIME!

I was obsessed with High School Musical in my early teen years, so the fact that Drew Seeley was at this convention was icing on the cake for me. I was able to get a photo with him on the red carpet, truly a dream come true.

My Trip to Tree Hill Pt. 2: Beach Party at Dan Scott's House!

Friday, March 16th, 2018

For those of you who don't know me, fun fact, before this day, I had never seen or been to the ocean. Needless to say, I was super excited to go to a beach party at the house used for Dan Scott's beach house on One Tree Hill.

My awesome friend Alex had the idea to arrive in style at this party, so we got a limo! My first time in a limo also!

Complete with a red carpet!

Once we arrived, we took a few cute photos at the photo booth area that they had set up!

And then it was time; time for what I'd been waiting to see my entire life: the ocean!

Girls' pic by the ocean!
Definitely kicking myself for not getting a picture of the beach house itself, but my awesome friend Kyra took this picture of the back of the house at sunset!

One of my favorite parts of the evening was being able to meet Michael May, who played Chuck Skolnick on the show. At this party, you weren't supposed to take any photos with the celebrities who attended. It was supposed to be all about talking to them and hanging out with them.

There was a lot of people, so my friends and I made our way onto the back porch, for some breathing room. Michael May was back there, surrounded by this group of girls, but we decided to just hang back and not go talk to him. Our friend Alex, on the other hand, went right up to Michael May and told him that we really wanted to meet him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, here comes Michael May, over to the dark corner of the porch where my friends and I were. I can't remember the exact conversation, but it went something like this:

"Oh, so you're the creepy girls hiding out in the dark, huh?"-MM

"No, we're totally normal, we're just not huge fans of crowds."-Us

"The Normal Girls from the Dark Corner...that would make a really good band name!"-MM

"Yeah it would!"-Us

"You'd need a killer album cover though. Let's take one now!"

We all sort of hesitated at this because we knew we weren't supposed to take any pictures, but Michael insisted. One of "his people" came and took the picture on my friend's phone, and then instructed us not to post it until later, so none of us got into any trouble.
We turned the lights on for the picture ;)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
And to top it all off, we were able to spend some time with Josh, the emcee/master of ceremonies for Eyecon Conventions! We took him for a spin in our limo, and since he already told the story on Facebook Live, I figured it would be okay to share the video! Of course we had to jam out to the OTH theme song, "I Don't Want To Be," by Gavin DeGraw.

My Trip to Tree Hill: Pt. 1

On a recommendation from a coworker, I began watching the TV show One Tree Hill, which would quickly capture my heart in the summer of 2016. After finishing all 9 seasons in the span of a few months, I found myself yearning for more. Little did I know that I would soon travel across the country to visit the place where they filmed the show:
Wilmington, North Carolina.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was on Instagram one day (@kelsey.beth.miller if y'all wanna follow me) and came across a post from a company called Eyecon Conventions (@eyecon3000 on Instagram and Twitter). I had only really ever heard of Comic Con, so finding out that there was a convention for One Tree Hill had me completely floored. I wanted to learn all that I could, and soon, I found myself buying tickets to the convention.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keep in mind, I had only been on a plane once prior to this, a 45 minute flight for a work meeting from Boise, ID to Portland, OR. So, needless to say, flying across the country solo sounded pretty daunting. But, I didn't care. This was something I needed to do for myself.

I ended up joining the Eyecon Return to Tree Hill Convention Facebook group, and through there, found myself in a group chat with some pretty amazing people who have become some of my closest friends. The shy girl who doesn't talk to strangers? Yeah, that's me. And I flew over 2500 miles to meet up with people I'd met on the internet.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Am I sounding crazy yet? Just bear with me!

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018.
I woke up at 3 am and started out on my 1 hour drive to the airport. Two layovers in Seattle and Atlanta later, I finally made it to Wilmington!

Wilmington, NC Airport

This was when my time in Tree Hill truly began. I went on the Tree Hill Tour, run by a couple amazing tour guides named Gina and Amy (and Alex!) We visited a ton of filming locations of the show. Check out the pictures below! (I included the addresses of the locations in case anyone decides to take their own self-guided tour!)

And now for my favorite stop of the tour...THE BRIDGE!

Opening Credits Bridge:

Loved that Gina had basketballs for our pictures on the bridge!

There's only one Tree Hill...and it's your home.

We also visited Java Dog (303 N Front Street), a local cafe that "transforms" into Karen's Cafe during the Eyecon Convention weekend!

Thursday night was the BBQ on the Rivercourt, where they showed two episodes of the show, and you were able to mix and mingle with some of the celebrities and what not. I didn't really get any pictures at the BBQ, but I did enjoy it, even if it was super cold!
